How do I repot a bamboo?

The container has a crack that is spreading. I do not want to move it until I know what I'm doing. What supplies do I need and how do I move the bamboo shoot without damaging the roots.

How do I repot a bamboo?
You can't hardly kill bamboo. Get a bigger pot and repot the clump of plants. You may want to divide into several smaller plants. You can always plant them together when you find a permanent home for them.

Good luck with your gardening.
Reply:the roots are cracking the pot. get a larger container, place the bamboo in it, then fill up the side with soil. it may also be advised to break up the roots if they are root bound from the old container. you can't really kill bamboo.
Reply:Bamboo is very hardy. You just prepare the new pot, then lift out the bamboo and put it on top of the soil in the new pot, with as much of the old soil still attached as you can manage. the roots will be in a kind of ball for most bamboos,so you can reach into the pot beneath them and left the root ball out.

I recommend going to a larger size pot, as bamboo likes to spread, and you have to have good drainage. I've had good luck with Miracle gro soil - the kind that retains extra water. Put some rocks in the bottom of your pot, put the bamboo on top, and make sure the shoots are at the surface.
