Do you hang your laundry using bamboo poles outside high rise apartments like we do in Singapore?

In Singapore, most people staying in high rise public housing(we call it HDB here) hang their laundry outside their kitchen windows to dry. There are about five to six bamboo holders present outside the ledge of our windows. I'm wondering if people from other countries do the same as I am suppose to find something that is unique to the culture of Singapore. I know that many countries use the bamboo pole too but do they do the same in high rise apartments? I need to know this urgently. I hope to get as many answers as possible, please help! THANK YOU!!!

never seen in canada
Reply:I live in the US-Michigan. I would say that most people dry their clothes in a gas or electric clothes dryer. We don't hang our laundry outside on bamboo poles, but we sometimes hang them on clotheslines - rope strung between two tall poles or trees. Because we live north and have very cold winters with snow, hanging our wet clothing outside causes it to freeze. So the use of the dryer is more prevalent in this part of the country.
Reply:I have never heard of that (from Australia). Wouldn't the wind cause problems if you are in a high rise and have clothes hanging out the window??
Reply:I am in the USA never saw it done here. I live in St.Louis city in the Midwest, and hardly anyone hangs laundry out to dry anymore. We all use gas or electric driers.:)
Reply:I'm in Arizona. It's illegal or against the code of the nicer, high rise apartments here.

I personally have never done that or seen that.

Thank you for sharing a piece of your culture.

How do you feel about using this method?
Reply:Hahaha...I like your question, cuz the way you do your laundry is exactly the same as what I, a Taiwanese, did when I lived in Taipei. For the Japanese, they use rope out of the apartment. And USA, I got to spend a dollar to dry it with dryer. And now in Australia, they use a pole with spike like level with line between the spike which looks like spiderweb... It is the most gross laundry line I ever used... The laundry will be blown far away or fallen on the dirty ground if you don't clip it tight...!! I still miss bamboo poles which is very economic, clean and light-weighted.
Reply:I have never seen a bamboo pole or hung my clothes out to dry.
Reply:There are a lot of asian people living here in australia, but they mainly use the poles in our area for trestles to hold their plants up, cause a lot of them grow their own veges., but otherwise, every home must come with a clothes line (hills hoist) or a retractable one or if in an apartment, either a laundry room or a dryer in the actual apartment, hope that helps and goodluck with your laundry :)
