If you've used a bamboo cutting board, do you like it better than a wooden one or plastic? Why or why not?

I just bought a bamboo cutting board and it seems to mark up easier and more quickly. I had a wooden one that I loved, but it's time was up. %26lt;sigh%26gt;

I use a bamboo one too and have no problem with it. I have a plastic one for fish and poultry. I only cut veggies and fruit on my bamboo one. I don't want to mix both because of contamination.
Reply:Right now i use a imitation marble board - somehow the others don't feel so clean but it is only my personal opinion
Reply:Bamboo cutting boards are wood. They have the same properties, and feel of the hardwood boards. The benefit of using bamboo, vs any of the other hardwoods, is that bamboo is a renewable resource. It is much easier and faster to replant a bamboo tree, than it is an oak tree.

Now, that being said, wooden cutting boards should NEVER be used to cut meat. Wood is porous, and little nasties can live down inside the wood (salmonella, e coli). You should only use plastic cutting boards to cut meat. They also have the added benefit of being dishwasher safe. Now, if you are anything like me, I have a total of 4 cutting boards...my Wooden Butcher's Block that is built into my counter top (which I use for veggies ONLY), and three large plastic cutting boards, one each for beef, fish, and poultry.
