Anyone know how to care for indoor bamboo?

i bought a stick of bamboo a few years ago, i think it was called lucky bamboo. the stem is about 3 inches tall and with the leaves its about 5 inches tall. i think its been 5 years ive had it and it never grows. is it not supposed to grow? its been in a small glass bowl with small pebbles on the bottom with the water line about an inch and a half. is there anything else im supposed to do? snip the leaves?

It's supposed to grow. It needs more water than that, really flood the whole cane %26amp; check the water level weekly, and it needs red lava rocks to provide a medium. Also, only use distilled water, as tap water will keep it from growing and eventually turn it yellow %26amp; die off.
Reply:Yes, it should grow large leaves after a while. Too much water will 'rot' the bamboo shoot, and do NOT use tap water. Bottled water with minerals is good. It will like light, but not bright sunlight.
Reply:Bamboo will not grow any taller than it is, it will only grow the leaves off the stalk. But keep is somewhere it gets a little sunlight and they seem to do better as far as growing new leaves faster. And make sure to keep it's dish full of water.
Reply:Mine seems to love water and sunlight. The more the better. It grows when given both. Try putting it near a window or a UV bulb.
Reply:beware, they are propagating fast and may turn over your house
Reply:I have lucky bamboo in my home and it is doing very well. You must remember to change the water every two weeks and it should grow. If your bamboo has survived 5 years then I can't see a problem. You seem to be doing the right thing anyway. Or perhaps it is truly a very very lucky bamboo!
Reply:The stick itself won't grow from where it was cut. But, it should be sprouting new leaves at the top.
