How does a bamboo flute or a flute I guess make sounds?

How exactly does a flute (more specifically bamboo one) make sounds, and what vibrates in it to create the sound waves?

Sorry, I don't mean to make others do my homework or anything, it's just that I don't understand the flute, which I'm doing for my instrument project, as much as I need to to answer a few questions about it. My book explains that the wind instruments have a reed that vibrates, but I am trying to make a reedless one.

How does a bamboo flute or a flute I guess make sounds?
A flute produces sound when a stream of air directed across a hole in the instrument bounces in and out of the hole.
Reply:Well its a woodwind instrument and that little hole at the end is where the air passes ovr when you blow on top of it and creates a vibration throught the pipe creating a certain pitch.

I would check out wikipedia.org for more info
Reply:you blow in it.
