Please help my bamboo?
Dear Bamboo friend,

I've been in the nursery bussiness for near 11 years.

your bamboo may be experiencing a few things.

First of all, look at the condition your bamboo is living in.

Bamboo's can survive in some of the dimest rooms, but do well in a bright, indirect sunlight area.

Also, are we talking about lucky bamboo(ie the kind you can find as a novelty in most asian markets), or are we talking about an actuall bamboo plant.

The way to tell the difference first is what its growing in, is it growing in water, or in soil.

Most lucky bamboo's are sold grow as a cutting in water.

Altough related to the Bamboo these plants are actually in the Draceana family(ie Mass cane, dragon plant, and corn plant...not to be confused with corn)

These plants actually thrive in lower light situations, and also do well as cuttings

Although these plants can be grown in water alone, they can not sit in water if grown in soil.

Soil has Bacteria that are meant to break down organic matter, hence your plant might be some thing to eat for the bacteria as well as the fungus. Moist, dark conditions encourage the activity of these organic organisms.

Secondly, if your plant is a true Bamboo...is it getting enough light.

Actuall Bamboo's as houseplant prefer Bright light...even an outdoor shady location, or morning sun.

Be carefull of cooler conditions. These plants have been accimated to the conditions of your home.

Therfore, Do not put them outdoors when you know the temps are dipping in the upper 40's and lower 50's.

Finally, is your plant sitting next to a vent or a window.

With the changing seasons plants can experience shock or devestation just by the coolness of a window, or the dry hot air whipping it in the blast of the heater vent.

Well needless to say, you've picked a great plant to grow!

I hope this answers you question.
