What's my bamboo shrimp doing?

I recently purchased a bamboo shrimp from Petco. I did research on all the foods I would need and I got everything. From what I read, I thought the shrimp would go towards the strong current in the tank (ie the filter). However, as soon as I put him in he started to crawl around the gravel and he seems to be picking stuff up from it and putting it in its mouth. I'm not sure what it is. As far as I can tell, there's nothing there but a little bit of brown algae, but that's where he is picking stuff up and putting it in its mouth. So what is he doing?

What's my bamboo shrimp doing?
Eating algae.

Reply:bamboo shrimp don't just filter feed they also eat algae and if they want even some fish flakes or what ever you feed your fish (I have one he eats at pellets that are for my cory cats in my 100 gallon tank sometimes but most of the time he filter feeds :3)
