Small Bamboo Shoot Clipping... Will it Grow?

My Lucky Bamboo plant had a small shoot (1.5 cm) coming out of the side. I was thinking that if I clipped it now, I would be able to grow a whole new individual plant. Did I clip it too early and will the clipping die? If it will live, how long will it take for roots to start growing?

Bamboo is a very invasive plant. I don't know about your cutting, but don't worry, soon you will have so many of those little shoots you will be back here asking how to control the stuff.

Usually though, wait until you notice some roots around one or two of the nodes, then you can saw off the shoot in between the roots and the mother plant. Dig carefully around the new roots and you will have a new plant.
Reply:It will probably grow okay. How long it takes to put out root depends on the weather (time of year). You'll know when it has because it will start growing fresh leaf at the same time. Whatever you do don't keep pulling it out to check :-) Lots of luck.
Reply:now that you have clipped it,keep your fingers crossed, leave well alone till you see new growth .failing which it could mean your clipping was done done a little too early. You will have many chances with such new shoots, the best way to do it is clip after a few roots are seen growing out of lowest nodes.chances of rooting are very good at this stage .
Reply:that was probably too small, but it doesnt hurt to wait. it should have roots in 3 weeks. you should wait till it is 4 inches tall
