Does bamboo have a secondary structure?
thanks
About bamboo?
Bamboo is a grass. It is not a tree. It is a monocot and most trees are dicots. Bamboo does not contain any vascular cambium to allow it to grow in width like dicots. It does not contain any secondary xylem and phloem as well. Bamboo sprouts will grow up to as tall as 50 feet depending on the species. Palms are considered trees even though they are monocots. They do not contain any vascular cambium to produce secondary xylem and phloem. Their trunk is the same size from top to bottom just like bamboo shoots.
Reply:secondary structure? what do you mean? bamboo is a tree like structure, that sprouts verticaly.
Reply:no - bamboo's a grass - it grows upwards not outwards - it's rings are verticle! xx
Reply:Bamboo is a woody grass, the reason why palm is not a tree is the woody trunk has no dead wood inside and the whole trunk is used to draw up water unlike a normal tree. The Palm does produce wood just like trees.
