When can i dig up my bamboo to split and transplant?
You can do this at any time in the year. Bamboo do not need to be dormant in order to transplant. Just make sure you get enough of the rooting system, as well as plenty runners in the running bamboo. Make sure to transplant into a suitable environment (not too dry or too moist) and provide with a good fertilizer to kick start it again. Plant may drop all its leaves in shock but it will soon send up new shoots. Very hard to kill running bamboo so make sure it is in a place you want it.
Reply:One thing you do not want to do is to transplant or divide your bamboo when it is shooting. Doing so will starve the new shoots and most will be aborted. If you have no choice to move them just be sure to water them deeply before dividing and wrap the roots tightly in plastic if they are not being potted as bamboo roots dry out quickly and may not recover upon tranplanting.
Reply:last weekend i moved some 14foot tall bamboo. as its hard to dig you will have to take clumps. i put some of mine in half barrals to keep for a while. seems to be doing fine.
Reply:seems like others have answered your question
Reply:Autumn and spring are good times. Assuming that you're in the UK, you will manage this successfully now.

Good luck! Rob
