How do iget my bamboo plant to branch out?
Im not exactly sure what you are asking but there is little to do to make bamboo branch in any other way than that particular species does. Sometimes cutting the top 1\3 of the stem (culm) off will stimulate side branching. Other than that there are hundreds of different species commonly available (from the 2 or 3 thousand of species worldwide) that have different sizes and branching characteristics. In general bamboo likes full to partial shade, well drained soil, alot of water and slow release fertilizer
Reply:It sounds more likely that what you are describing is NOT bamboo, but "Lucky Bamboo", aka Dracaena sanderiana. This plant is primarily an indoor plant and will not grow to mammoth proportions as a bamboo like those in the Bambusa species.

If your bamboo is indoors, in a small pot of water with rocks on top then this is definitely what you have.
