How do you grow bamboo indoors?

We bought 3 bamboo stems and have had them in glass vases with water for about 3 months. They don't seem to be growing. We did not cut the bottom of the stems or anything seeing as there were roots attached. Is that something we should have done? Any tips or techniques would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Peace %26amp; Love!!

i've only ever put them in a vase of water and this works, i suppose you could snip the roots off and start again.
Reply:put mini rocks in the glass vases then bury the bamboo in them then water a little bit each day the water will slowly sink into the rocks
Reply:k. . i learned a few about bamboos.. give them to pandas xP

tell them to eat it. JK

k what u do it just be patient because a tree that is planted cannot grow in 3 months.. and id say that bamboos are the same... keep and wait for your bamboo to grow.

oh and put some river pebbles..
Reply:Good question.
Reply:Of Course You Can...You Dont Have To Water It or Anything....
Reply:My grandma has a long bamboo stem in her house.

Instead of cutting the bottom, cut off the top because, over time the top of it gets weak because most of the water is sucked into the bottom leaves of the plant and the vascular system of the plant gets low on water once it reaches the top.

When you cut the top, the bamboo starts to grow back faster and better.

Try this, it works!

Peace %26amp; Love to you 2!
Reply:lots of water and sun light
Reply:YES U DO HAVE TO WATER THEM!! smart one^^^^^
Reply:you got the right idea. add a few polished stones/pebbles, (you can get them at the beach or Ikea) to support the bamboo and keep it upright. keep the water clean, i add a teaspoon of bleach (per gallon of water) to keep the water clean., trim any brown leaves and give it lots of sun and love...:)

Reply:http://www.chiff.com/a/lucky-bamboo.htm Your main culprit is chlorine/fluoridated water particularly if you are watering directly from the tap. Untreated water as described in the link is best or use Distilled which is extremely inexpensive to purchase...you will want to ensure to feed the bamboo with a nutrient occasionally especially if using the Distilled water.

Remove the yellowed/shrivelled stems and replace with new fresh green ones whose root system is also healthy and reasonably plentiful...combine them into a grouping of 3 or more, place in diffused light not directly in front of a window that get full sun etc. Rotate the plant every week or so for even growth and always ensure the plant is watered...change the water every week - or two at most...place the stems in containers roomy enough to house chipped stones (small) although some will say this is more decorative than useful...the stones do allow for stability and retention of water better (particularly if you live in colder climates where heating is required... the stones remain moist enough that if you have forgotten to water will not completely leave the roots dry if a day or two is involved.

Good luck...they are very easy to take care of and grow without much attention... start with healthy stems and regular monitoring and you'll have great looking bamboo plants all around the house :)
Reply:Did you buy "lucky bamboo"? If so, take a look at this link:

Reply:Plenty of clean water, change it regularly. I always take out my bamboo stems and wash them gently in the sink getting anything slimy off of them and them put them back in the clean water. Sunlight is very important. They should be growing a little when they are healthy. Also, use rocks (small clean pebbles, etc) to support the bamboo shoots and keep them upright. Don't put too many shoots in any one container. I use a glass jar/container to let the light through.
Reply:usually you put it in a vase with small river rocks and water to make it grow give it plenty of sunlight. :)
Reply:ummm dud your plant get sunshine alot
