How do you cut bamboo and then have the part you cut grow like a new one.?

This bamboo grows in water and was bought a year ago from the home depot.

Only the top piece will grow upward...and most bamboo you purchase in the store has that scarred looking flat top where it was cut. That kind will never grow any taller. It will grow bushier, however, and the shoots out the side will grow quite a lot. You can cut the main stalk into two and place both in water and have two plants...but they will always remain the same height.
Reply:just place it in a jar with stones to help hold it up and put water in it
