How long does a bamboo grow?

For my sixteenth birthday, my mom bought me one of those portable supposedly looking asian bamboo plant. Okay, so I'm seventeen, and it only grew about two inches. At what point should I remove it from it's planter thing or do I just leave it in there?

How long does a bamboo grow?
It completely depends on the Bamboo. Some of the bamboo is ornamental. Other types of Bamboo can literally grow 30+ feet! Here in Southern California, many people (including the San Diego Wild Animal Park) use the Bamboo plants for barriers and fencing.

If the Bamboo is surviving in the pot, leave it in the pot. The roots are extremely invasive and can go rather deep. Investigate the type of plant you have before deciding to plant it in the yard.
Reply:I have it growing in my yard from a previous neighbor that planted it. Did you know it's considered the fastest growing plant. Mine are topping easy 20 - 30 feet and grows like a weed. Read up before trying to plant it in the ground.

Good luck.
Reply:There sare basically two types of bamboo. Clumping and regular. Regular bamboo spreads like grass whereas clumping bamboo tends to grow in....... clumps :) Find out what sort you have before you out plant it. If you're unsure, it's a good idea to plant it into a pot with a good quality potting mix.
