Issues with bamboo?
Actually bamboo is pretty Good to eat!
Reply:Instead of throwing it away, offer it on freecycle.org in your area. Someone may not want to plant it but someone would be able to use bamboo sticks. I would love to have some harvested bamboo. I use it all the time for trellis, tomato cages, decorating, etc. I grow bamboo and I always cut down the new shoots when they get tall enough (which doesn't take long). Throw away the roots. You may still get some pop-ups, just keep digging them out everytime one pops up. The sooner the better.
Reply:Know anybody with a backhoe? Seriously, I know how much of a problem bamboo can be, it is hell bent on world domination and can spread rapidly and take over your whole yard. About the only way you can get rid of it is to dig it out, and you will have to continue to dig it out until it finally doesn't come up any more. You can try Roundup when it first comes up in the spring and is nice and young and juicy, soon as it gets some fairly decent growth, Roundup needs to be sprayed on actively growing plants. If you do decide to keep some, it can be kept under some measure of control be mowing it where you don't want it.
Reply:dig it up so that the roots are gone %26amp; throw it out.
Reply:I once had a problem with bamboo. It can cause a lot of damage. The roots run along the ground shooting up shoots, so you will have to dig and pull up the roots. Luckily the roots do not grow too deep but sure do wander and gain ground. The neighbours probably got rid of their roots and now they are at your house!! I would never plant it again except in a planter to which it could not get out of. I hope this helps. You might put an ad in the local paper and sell some of it.------------As to your added comments, it will not help to go and cut it down, it just seems to grown more vigorously underground. I had a cement patio outside and it grew under it and pushed the cement up and it was all broken. Try and get at the roots as soon as you can.
Reply:If I'm not mistaken, it grows in moist low-lying areas. Therefore, I would look into drainage techniques and hauling in screened topsoil to raise the landscape of that area up. But def. find out if I'm right first!!!

Much luck... that stuff is not too pretty, so I understand why you want it gone.
Reply:you have to cut it so its just above the ground (you can do all sorts of stuff with the top bits-cook them in recipes, make stuff if your creative and they sell for a good price too) then you have to root them out completly. theyre very fast growing so if the continue you will have to ask a specialist or even replace the soil. sell the fresh roots too for someone who actually want bamboo to grow.but think about it first. they are very good screening plants.
Reply:first you chop it down a good size.

then you up root it.

make sure to get all the roots.
Reply:carefully dig the whole plant up and put weed killer where it was. if a single piece of root is left it will grow

back.
