Growing bamboo?

If I decide to buy Moso bamboo seeds, I live in VA, how long can I expect for the seeds to grow? How should I go about doing this? How long until the seeds reach a few feet in height?

Growing bamboo?
The other answer is partially true, Moso IS a runner and needs to be maintained or contained to keep it under control. But bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world. Some of my new canes will grow 6 to 12 inches in 24 hours. For your area a nice clumping family of bamboo is Faresia, its smaller than your Moso but will not run. Not ALL bamboo is invasive!!!!!

Growing from seed is pretty variable. First you have to get past the germination, that could take several weeks. Germinating seeds need alot of care and ALWAYS be moist. If you get them past that, small pots would be best for the first growing season, they wont get very big the first year. The next year would be ok to get them in the ground and depending on growing conditions might get a few feet. Be aware that Phylostaches edulis (moso) gets to be 75 feet, and as a runner that can be a handfull!
Reply:Bamboo is a ver agressive plant and should be grown in a confined area in large tubs or even in a concreted box filled with good compost. The seeds will take a while to become established and bamboo once growing needs regular thinning out. Bamboo is slow growing and it all depends on temperate climate, sun, rain etc
