Laying bamboo floooring?
Bamboo flooring is a good choice. It wears well and looks great.
But, you can not lay it over carpet. The carpet has to come up and the subfloor (concrete or wood) has to be prepped.
Need help? I am free this weekend?
Reply:Please think about the following.
If you live above someone in your condo, you should consider the amount of noise you may generate with non carpet flooring. One of the biggest difficulties in multi story condominiums is the noise that comes from non buffered units. Putting in a moisture barrier or other underlayment material that is used for floating floors does not sound proof it so if you do live above someone, think about this before you make your final decision.
And, yes--bamboo is great--especially in high traffic areas--but you cannot lay it, wood or laminate over carpet. The boards are put together by sliding corresponding slots together, and if you had carpet underneath, the bamboo floor would flex so much that it would be ruined in a short time even if you were able to get all of the floor down, to begin with.
Reply:You must take up the carpet, and do a general cleaning of the subfloor.
For the floating floor to work you need a clean hard surface to lay down foam or sand in order to "float" the wood above the floor without really attaching it.
Reply:Not really. You could lay some subflooring down over the carpet but it probably would flex too much. Take up the carpet, it isn't all that difficult.
Reply:no rip up the carpet flooring the wood has to be completely flat to floor you also need a moisture barrier underneath the new wood floor,
