Why is my lucky bamboo dying ?

I have several small plants with 3 stalks of bamboo in each. In one of the pots, one of the stalks turned yellow and then black. This happend about a year ago to another stalk. I know they get enough sunlight bc other than the occasional dead one, they are all very healthy. I water regularly with distilled water. do bamboo die of old age? these ones are only a few years old. please give me suggestions. thanks

Why is my lucky bamboo dying ?
Lucky bamboo likes bright indirect sunlight. I planted mine in soil and it saved them.Plant them in a self draining pot. Just water them when the soil dries out a good bit and that's about it. In the soil they are one of the easiest houseplants to take care of that I ever had, next to my cactus.
Reply:how long have you had your bamboo plant planted in dirt? that is interesting it works

I too had one die. turned yellow. I use tap water that has sat out over night. and have for sometime. thanks Report It
Reply:I have yet to see one that lasts very long.
Reply:I think your lucky bamboo needs some luck of it's own. I could never keep mine alive either. I kknow they need sun, that is when they are happiest, but, I guess mine weren't too happy either.

You might try finding a 4 sided shamrock instead. Maybe some lucky charms.......yummy
Reply:Possibly too much sunlight. Bamboo is a low light plant. Also, you should try not to water them more than every 3 weeks or so. When you do water, make it a lot so that it will last. For some reason bamboo like stale water:)
Reply:Sometimes in the winter when the furnace is on my bamboo dries out so I mist the stalks with a spray bottle once a week or so. I have had some die before, I always figured they were the unlucky ones.
