Can i grow bamboo from cuttings?

My neighbours have a huge bamboo bunch growing into our yard. I really like it and was wondering if i too some cuttings off it, if they would grow? If they will, how do i plant the cuttings? I am not sure what type of bamboo it is, it is more bushy than thick and tall, if that helps.

((( IF )))) your neighbors bamboo is growing into your yard then you have a problem. It is in all probability it is RUNNING bamboo and it will soon be a mass of bamboo in your yard, and cuttings won't be necessary.

I am amazed at how many answers people will give about growing bamboo.

YES IT CAN BE DONE WITH CUTTINGS, BUT NOT WITH ALL TYPES. OPEN THE LINK BELOW AND SCROLL DOWN TO

There is only TWO (2) types RUNNING which is very invasive and

CLUMPING which is NOT.

bamboo is vilified by many, revered by a minority, and (((understood by virtually no one.))))))

Reply:Why not check with you're local florist,I've seen it in pots for the home.
Reply:It will continue to grow into your yard until it take over , you need some of the root to transplant, but why go through the trouble, start thinking about how to stop it.
Reply:Yes most bamboos are easily propagated through divison.A caveat, plant your bamboo in a buried metal container, the genus is historically invasive.
Reply:you can take a small bamboo cutting and put it in some water. when it roots you can plant it.
Reply:the $2 "lucky bamboo" you get at a florists is not bamboo, it's a Dracaena species...

You would probably want to divide a clump of your neighbours. And then sink a 50 gallon drum into your garden and plant it within that otherwise yes, it will take over.
