I will be building a tiki-bar outside my home [near the pool]. I am going to need bamboo that I can cut and make poles, ect. out of for the tiki-bar. Where can I get this? How much will the bamboo cost?
Where can I get Bamboo [to build a Tiki-Bar out of]?
I bought some for my garden at home depot this summer
Reply:Listen, you're not looking for raw bamboo, you are looking for bamboo mats. They are bamboo wired together in mats that can be attached fairly easily. Getting raw bamboo is one reed at a time and you'll go nuts.
Best installation is over plywood (which is the structure of your bar). It doesn't need to be very hefty, just 1/4" or 3/8" to keep the bar structurally sound. Paint the plywood a dark color before you install the bamboo. You can use staples or brads to attach the bamboo mats.
Lowes and Home Depot.
