i bought what was called lucky bamboo at walmart, it was just a stick of it, the directions said to keep it in spring water, which i do, it was doing really well, but the other day it broke, it said with the directions that if this happens just add the broken piece to the water and it will develop roots and grow, but both pieces are turning yellow and rotting on the ends now, what happened, does anyone know what i did wrong or if i can save it, i like having it on my window sill above my kitchen sink........thanks in advance
Growing bamboo?
If they are all squishy feeling and turning yellow, it may be too late to save. Try using a sharp knife and cut the ends in the water so they have fresh start (like cut flowers)- don't use scissors or they will be crushed. These bamboo don't like too much sun, either- excessive sun may turn them yellow too.
You may not have done anything wrong- maybe you just got unlucky and picked a sick piece of bamboo- if it broke on its own, maybe that is a sign it was sick already. If it was a traumatic break- maybe the pieces were crushed at the break point and can't suck up water well. Creating a new cut point with knife would help, if they plants aren't too weak at this point to recover.
